In addition to 70 acres of woodland Hazel Hill Wood is home to a selection of environmentally sustainable, off grid buildings. We have everything to suit the needs of school or youth groups, individuals and families, private businesses and organisations looking for a unique space to hold events. The Oakhouse is the main indoor gathering place, graceful and comfortable: fully insulated and heated! It includes an internal dining area, a 21′ x 21′ group room, lean-to veranda dining area, a spacious kitchen, with a 6-burner range size propane gas cooker, a small gas fridge, storage cupboards, twin sinks and crockery and utensils. An open sleeping loft for 4 people, a group leaders’ bedroom, three other double bedrooms, showers and an indoor composting loo. Heating by wood-burning stove, lighting by low-voltage solar electricity. Foam mattresses are provided: just bring a sleeping bag!
The Forest Ark can accommodate 1-6 people and includes a main double bedroom with an en suite, wheelchair accessible bathroom. A second double bedroom and large open plan living area that can sleep 2 more. A spacious kitchen is fully equipped with a centre island and dining table. There is a wrap around covered veranda with a bbq for alfresco dining.
This is a large, covered circular space, diameter 27′ (8.2m), which was completely rebuilt in 2012 with a vaulted roof and no central support pillar. The new entrance takes the spirit of the building deeper into the Wood. With an earth floor, it has a stone fireplace/altar, and is well suited to dancing, rituals and other group sessions. The Roundhouse can also be used for undercover sleeping.
The tub is a favourite with users. Capacity 9 seated or more if you dare! Set in a glade just away from the Oak house, its magical location is perfect for winding down in the evening, staring at the stars above you.
At the heart of the wood is a seven acre area of mature beech and scots pine, which provides a beautiful, sheltered and well-drained setting for the main camping area and camp circle. This area is only a few minutes’ walk from the covered facilities. There are several other areas suitable for camp circles: normally bookings are limited to 25 people, but occasional larger camping groups can be accommodated.
